About Heather

Heather is a native of South Dakota and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from South Dakota State University. Her first career was as a newspaper reporter covering state and local government, sports, and community events in Idaho and South Dakota. She transitioned to work in nonprofit marketing and communications for nationally-known organizations in South Dakota, Washington, DC., and Chicago.

She returned to graduate school in her 30s and earned a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Roosevelt University. During her master’s program, she interned with Wright College, a community college part of the City Colleges of Chicago.

Upon graduation, she moved to Wyoming where she currently works as licensed professional counseling. Her theoretical orientation is person-centered with mixes of ACT, mindfulness, and narrative therapy. She has received certificates in Perinatal Mental Health, ADHD, QPR, and Emotions Focus Therapy with additional training self-compassion, DBT, ACT, CBT, trauma-informed care, suicidal ideation, and polyvagal therapy. She has experience working with those experiencing crisis and acute mental health symptoms.
